AU: New Horticulture Innovation Centre a boost for Tasmanian agriculture
ABC Rural: Tasmania has secured a new $3 million centre for innovation in Australian horticulture. Part of the Federal Government’s Industrial Transformation program, the national training centre for horticultural innovation will be based at the University of Tasmania.
The aim of the centre is to develop and produce new fresh fruit and vegetable products for both the export and local market. Woolworths has signed up as the commercial partner in Australia’s new Centre for Innovative Horticultural Products.
The supermarket, which brands itself on its fresh food, said the fresh fruit and vegetable sector was growing, but could grow faster. Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture microbiologist Associate Professor Tom Ross will lead the centre.
