US: Listeria spurs company to recall fresh, sliced apples
Food Safety News: Sliced fresh apples — packaged alone and with other fresh-cut fruits and vegetables — are under recall by the Fresh From Texas company because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Photos of all of the recalled products are included with the notice on the FDA website.
The voluntary recall initiated Wednesday is for sliced apples sold by H-E-B grocery stores in Texas, according to a recall notice on the Food and Drug Administration website. “The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continue their investigation as to what caused the problem,” the recall notice states. Listeria monocytogenes contamination discovered during internal testing by Fresh From Texas spurred the recall. The pathogen was found in two random samples of the same product.
