Product recalls are never far from the headlines. In our experience, if a company doesn’t have a recall plan before a recall incident, they will make sure they have one afterwards. We have come across recall plans that have clearly been compiled as a box-checking exercise for their retail customers or insurers and then left untouched until a crisis occurs. These provide a false sense of security as they are unlikely to be effective when most needed. A product recall plan should be user-friendly, focused and effective. It should also complement your crisis response plans and be an integral element of your overall business continuity management.
