The Packer: Technology will transform the way produce safety is managed and produce operators must be prepared to adjust. That was a message delivered by Bob Whitaker, chief science and technology officer for the Produce Marketing Association, at an Oct. 14 Fresh Summit 2016 session called “Emerging Trends in Food Safety and Technology: Are you prepared?”

Whitaker said produce operators need to invest in food safety and make it a part of company culture, he said. “If you are thinking of food safety as something you have to do to make sale, then strike one,” he said.
