A collaborative New Zealand Fresh Produce Food Safety Network is being proposed to strengthen leadership, coordination and communication across the fresh produce food safety system, from production to retail.

Developed jointly by HortNZ, NZGAP and United Fresh, and endorsed by the Fresh Produce Safety Centre (FPSC), NZ Food Safety and the NZ Food Safety Science Research Centre, the proposed network aims to:

  • Improve strategic and operational alignment on food safety
  • Facilitate efficient, coordinated communication
  • Harmonise approaches to managing food safety risks
  • Strengthen readiness and response to food safety incidents
  • Enhance access to trusted food safety information

FPSC is coordinating next steps on establishment of the network and is seeking feedback on the proposal by Friday 14th November. A similar network could be considered for Australia, so please share your thoughts on this also.
