AU: Frozen berry sales slowly recovering, says Patties Foods
Fresh Fruit Portal: The head of a company embroiled in an Australian food safety scare earlier this year says frozen berry products are improving every week, although sales are still below comparative levels in 2014.
Patties Foods managing director Stephen Chaur told AAP while no direct link had actually been found between his group’s berry products and a Hepatitis A outbreak, the category was still “underperformingâ€.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:As of November 18, 2015, 838 people infected with the outbreak strains of Salmonella Poona have been reported from 38 [US] states. Among people for whom information is available, illnesses started on dates ranging from July 3, 2015 to November 1, 2015. Ill people range in age from less than 1 year to 99, with a median age of 18. Fifty-seven percent of ill people are female. Among 601 people with available information, 165 (27%) report being hospitalized. Four deaths have been reported.

The MoU was signed as part of a three day Tasmanian Government-led delegation visit to Lincoln University.
The MoU formalises current research collaborations and paves the way for new research opportunities in dairy, vegetables, viticulture, apples, pasture production, and food safety and innovation.

Food Safety Information Council: A national survey carried out by OmniPoll for Australian Food Safety Week found that 71% of those surveyed blamed pasteurized milk for food poisoning when, in fact, it is the least likely to make you ill, even if it smells or tastes nasty, as pasteurisation kills harmful bacteria.
Food Safety Information Council Chair, Rachelle Williams, said that the research showed that many Australians couldn’t correctly identify foods that are often linked to food poisoning outbreaks if not handled or cooked correctly.
