AU: Aussie farm brand highlighted in China
Farm Weekly: A video showcasing premium Australian agricultural produce will be displayed during the Australia Week in China (AWIC) trade mission this week to assist with the development of a unified brand. The three and a half minute video clip was developed by ASA100 members Dairy Australia, Meat and Livestock Australia and Wine Australia in collaboration with Austrade.

New Zealand Herald: Zespri has put 1.7 million trays of export kiwifruit on hold after traces of mechanical lubricant were found on some plastic tray liners, sparking concerns some fruit could be at risk of contamination. The contaminant on the Chinese-manufactured liners was spotted during the kiwifruit packing process and forced the unloading of a ship docked at the Port of Tauranga.

The Packer: A new, cost-effective food safety certification program for small and mid-sized growers has been launched by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Called GroupGAP, the program certifies that growers are following industry-recognized food safety practices.“We know that GAP certification can sometimes be cost-prohibitive for smaller farmers,†AMS administrator Elanor Starmer said in a news release. “GroupGAP allows these farmers to demonstrate compliance with strong food safety standards and share the cost of certification across a group of growers.â€

The Age: Shoppers buying and sprinkling chopped oregano leaves to flavour their food might actually be using entirely different ingredients, says consumer advocacy group Choice. A lab test found seven out of 12 popular oregano products were found to contain less than 50 per cent oregano leaves. They were bulked out with olive and sumac leaves.

Food Safety News: Frozen broccoli packaged under Save-A-Lot’s exclusive Wylwood brand is being recalled in 11 states after a random test by Ohio officials found Listeria monocytogenes. The Ohio Department of Agriculture collected the frozen broccoli for testing at the retail store level, so there is concern that consumers may have packages of it in their homes.
