NZ: Growers Show MPI Their Food Safety Practises
Horticulture New Zealand: Horticulture New Zealand hosted a tour last week for Ministry for Primary Industries’ staff working on the new Food Act. The tour visited growers in the Horowhenua region to discuss food safety practises. The MPI staff wanted to discuss the practicalities of food safety requirements, harvesting, and packing of fresh fruit and vegetables within each unique business.

Center for Produce Safety: A pair of research projects that focus on Salmonella and its relationship to irrigation water are designed to help Southeastern producers better understand associated risks and steps they can take to address them. The first one, led by George Vellidis, Ph.D. and a professor in the University of Georgia’s Crop and Soil Sciences Department, looked at whether Salmonella moves through irrigation systems of Southeastern produce farms. Part of the project … examined water sampling methods.

Ministry for Primary Industries: The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Director General has issued a statement warning of a potential risk associated with imported frozen berries, following 4 human cases of Hepatitis A thought to be linked to packaged imported frozen berries.
The Ministry has instituted a surveillance programme, including additional testing, focussed on imported frozen berries.

The publically-listed Beston (ASX: BFC) says the OZIRIS app, together with its existing BRANDLOK anti-counterfeiting technology, is believed to be a world first in combining multi-layered covert IR and UV technology with ‘track & trace’ software technology.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand: A food incident is defined as ‘any situation within the food supply chain where there is a risk, potential risk or perceived risk of illness or confirmed illness, associated with the consumption of a food or foods’ and relates to an issue that could, or is expected to, impact on multiple government jurisdictions’.
A food incident may be identified through a number of sources, for example food recalls, a multi-jurisdictional outbreak investigation and intelligence from industry, local/state government or international counterparts.
