UK: Public trusts farmers more than Government over food safety – survey

FG Insight: The British Social Attitudes survey, which gathered responses from more than 2,000 members of the public, found 58 per cent trusted farmers, 34 per cent trust supermarkets and just 33 per cent trusted the Government. More than 80 per cent said it mattered the food they bought was healthy and 58 per cent felt it was important farmers and growers were paid a fair price.

US: Egypt investigates strawberry link to Hepatitis A cases in U.S

Food Safety News: Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture is investigating the possibility that strawberries being exported to the United States are contaminated with Hepatitis A. Virginia health officials suspect that 17 recent cases of Hepatitis A are linked to the Tropical Smooth Café, a smoothie chain that was using frozen strawberries from Egypt during the exposure timeframe.
